Level 4 Certificate in Education & Training
The aim of this qualification is to up skill learners within teaching and learning to those currently working within a teaching role. This qualification will contribute to the skills, knowledge and overall performance of teaching and to aid career progression.
Those seeking to undertake this qualification must be able demonstrate ability equivalent to or exceeding level 2 in English, mathematics and ICT.
This qualification is built on an 8 unit model which includes:
- Five mandatory units
- Three optional units
- A minimum of three observation in the workplace
Guided Learning Hours
140-204 hours. Examples of this are on-the-job work experience, 1-2-1 learning and group teaching.

- Planning to meet the needs of learners in education and training
Examples of Optional Units
- Identify individual learning and development needs

Methods of Recording Study
Your qualification will be completed via paper based portfolio with interactive learning.
This qualification can be tailored to individual needs from 6 months to 1 year.
The qualification requires the development of underpinning knowledge (theory) and observation in the workplace to demonstrate competence. You will complete the mandatory units (21 credits) and a selection of optional units to achieve the minimum 38 credit requirements.
Will I have to take an exam?
No, with the qualification being 100% work based all of the qualification will be completed through course work and observations done by your assessor.
Will I have to attend education during the Qualification?
No, this qualification does not require you to attend any other form of education aside from the Qualification itself, as it is a work based Qualification and can be completed at your place of employment.
How long does it last?
The qualification can be tailored to individual needs from 6 months to 1 year.
What is a level 4 Certificate in Education and Training Qualification?
A Certificate in Education and Training Qualification is broken up into taught based and work based modules that contribute towards a qualification that is nationally recognised by employers and educational providers, this qualification will help upskill your skills and knowledge to help you teach and assess within your work placement.
What support will I receive
You will receive regular visits from your assessor to ensure that the work is being done and to provide some advice on anything you may be unsure about.
What are the hours?
The hours you will be working are determined by your employer, the guided learning hours to achieve your qualification are 140 – 204 hours this can be spread out however you require to balance your work load and coursework.
